Sounds great
Nice "laid back" sound that I was looking for -- not punchy at all, but warm and nice. Bass is ... "viscous," I would say, rather than boomy. A bit nicer than the Fiio X5, but not as nice as the Fiio X7-I. Can't really comment on other aspects like imaging -- haven't listened enough yet. The only problem I'm having with it -- both of them; I bought two -- is that it will sometimes skip and mumble on bluetooth. I assume maybe it can't keep up? It happens with multiple bluetooth sources so I suspect it's the unit. Pausing the source for 10 seconds and then unpausing fixes it every time. Will try bluetoothing in a different format and see if that helps. If not, will report it to Shanling or check online forums. Also, the controls are annoying. For instance: the display turns off after a few seconds and whatever you do next just turns it back on. So if you're trying to skip to the next song you have to turn the wheel two notches instead of one. Unless, of course, you did something in the last few seconds, in which case one is enough. Sigh. Anyway, not a big enough deal given how good the unit sounds (to my tastes).
