From Headphone Bar: AKG's top headphone. Hand made in Austria and individually numbered. The Quincy Jones Signature Line Q701 is in store and ready to demo. These retain the now classic beautiful design and a fantastic, detailed & spacious sound. They combine the best of the k701 & k702, with the removable cables of the k702 and the looks of the k701 with a lightly updated version.
Very comfortable velour earpads and a real leather headband that is a bit softer than the k701 headband. They like power and provide a spacious, detailed and natural sound, with an emphasis on clarity and definition (these have a very tight bass, as opposed to a boomy sound). Includes both a 10 ft and 20ft removable cable and 1/8" mini adaptor.
*Note, the Q701 came in second place in the May 2011 Hi-Fi News group test.
These AKG's are just an excellent value for a hand-made, world class headphone. In the review they are only 1/2 the price of the 1st place HD800's (UK currency & prices), but at Headphone Bar these Q701's are 1/4 of the Sennheiser's price! The magazine is in the store to review.

The first thing you should know is that these are fantastic headphones for the price and can be easily driven straight out of a laptop or your portable audio player of choice. I have exactly zero issues with the sound though the bass may be a little light for some and the mids a little cold. My sole complaint lies with the comfort of the headphone. The bumps on the headband are quite hard and despite its light weight, this headphone initially caused me some discomfort. Though I have now adapted to the headband, I still find the foam in the ear pads to be altogether too firm for the clamping force of these headphones. That said, the AKG Q701 is a terrific headphone and the Headphone Bar is an amazing store. Thanks for letting me sit in your store for over an hour listening to these things.

These are the best headphones I have ever heard! They are incredibly accurate, and require no EQ to sound great. They are also very comfortable, with an automatically adjusting headband. The quality is top-notch, and it's nice that they are made in Austria :-)
The only headphones I found that compare with the Q701s are the Sennheiser HD800s, which are more than 5x as expensive. Clearly, the Q701s are the best value in the store.
They sound great when plugged directly into my Macbook Air's headphone-out port, but I will definitely buy an amplifier for it later, because then it's even better!
This store is the only place where you can even dream of listening to such high-end headphones, and it's not even more expensive than buying online, where you cannot listen to anything. It's ridiculous that on Amazon.ca, these headphones cost $355! If you go in person, you can listen to ANYTHING in the store, and try out different combinations of headphones and amplifiers. I'm so glad I discovered this little store!

I am incredibly happy with the Q701. They are, by far, the most comfortable headphones I have ever worn. The sound and build quality are absolutely superb. The warmth and clarity they give all my music is brilliant and the pairing with my HA540 is perfect. I cannot say enough about how great the inherent value in this set of cans is. Under $400 for these is unbelievable. Try them out, you will not be disappointed.
